2022 Thuringia

Vintage car trip Thuringia

29.April-1.May 2022

After our traditional spring trip had to be canceled last year due to corona, we want to offer a tour again this year. Yes, we also know that everything is still a bit uncertain at the moment due to the current Corona situation, but we are optimistic that the situation will improve again by spring. In any case, this is a tour in a very beautiful landscape with interesting sights along the way. Further information can be found in the registration form.

Day 1 Friday April 29, 2022

We start in Eltville in the morning. If you want, you can also join the tour on the go.

We mainly drive on secondary and federal roads through the Taunus to Butzbach. We then continue along the German half-timbered road through the picturesque towns of Grünberg, Lauterbach and Schlitz. Our route then crosses the former inner-German border and ends in Eisenach. We will arrive there in the afternoon so that there is still time to visit some of the city's sights (e.g. Wartburg, Automobile Museum, Bach House).

Day 2 Saturday April 30, 2022

We now head east, approx. 200km across Thuringia. Immediately after the start we pass “Mini a Thür”, a park with the most important buildings in Thuringia on a scale of 1:25. Next door, the summer toboggan run invites you to take a rapid descent. We reach Arnstadt via side streets. This historic Bach city is considered the gateway to the Thuringian Forest.

Shortly afterwards we reach the next highlight, Rudolstadt and its Heidecksburg Castle. Here we can not only visit the castle, but also a very special exhibition: Rococo en miniature.

Then we continue past Gera and Posterstein Castle towards Altenburger Land. Shortly behind the state border in Saxony we reach our hotel for the second night, near Zwickau.

If you get to the hotel early, you can also go to the August Horch Museum in Zwickau.

Day 3 Sunday May 1st, 2022

After breakfast together, everyone can travel home directly or visit the Horch museum in Zwickau.

There is of course a recommended route for the entire return journey. After about 50km, heading directly south-west, you will have the first opportunity to continue your journey home on the motorway. Anyone who continues to follow the recommended route will be compensated by traveling on the Thuringian Forest Nature Park Route. Since we had an extensive program in the previous two days, we quickly return to the Rhine-Main area via a mostly little-used federal road.
